2026: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: High School Edition
Appleton North’s 2026 spring production will be the high school edition of the Oliver and Tony Award-winning play HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD. Nineteen years after Harry, Ron, and Hermione saved the Wizarding World, they’re back on a most extraordinary new adventure – this time, joined by a brave new generation that has only just arrived at the legendary Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. When Harry Potter’s headstrong son Albus befriends the son of his fiercest rival, Draco Malfoy, it sparks an unbelievable new journey for them all – with the power to change the past and future forever. Prepare for spectacular spells, a mind-blowing race through time, and an epic battle to stop mysterious forces, all while the future hangs in the balance.
Appleton North theatre director Ron Parker stated, “We are thrilled to be the first to bring this magical, record-breaking theatrical experience to the Fox Valley! The play is an imagined sequel to the popular book and film series focusing on the sons of Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy as they begin their journey at Hogwarts while also coming to terms with living in the shadows of their famous and infamous fathers. Many of the original characters we know and love are present as well as several new ones. While the play is a spell-binding adventure story full of delightful magical moments, wonderful costumes, scenery, state of the art projections and thrilling special effects, it also deals with very human subjects and themes. HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD is a story about the barriers we erect between those we care about and ourselves–barriers of resentment, of fear, of misjudgment and mistrust. It’s a story of the struggle to break through those barriers and the discovery of the only magic powerful enough to do so: love. The play deals with issues of identity, adolescence, family, friendship, parenting, memory, prejudice, and grief. It’s about something we have all experienced–either as mothers and fathers or sons and daughters: what it feels like, in some way, to be a cursed child. It’s a story that we hope will work its own true magic on the hearts and minds of our audiences.”
The New York Times called the play, “Pure theatrical magic!” and “...a marvel of imagination, as magical as any spell or potion.” Winner of nine Olivier Awards, including Best New Play and six Tony Awards, including Best Play, HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD continues to play to sold-out houses on Broadway and the West End, and has since additionally opened in numerous cities across the globe, including Hamburg, Melbourne, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Toronto and continues to be seen in various cities across North America.
